• Capcom to Release ResidentEvil.net

Upon the release of Capcom's highly anticipated Resident Evil 6 will also come ResidentEvil.net, a Call of Duty Elite-esque website that will allow players to track stats, connect with friends, compete in online challenges, and much more. The service will be free and will include linking to Facebook and Twitter. An app for phones is also scheduled for a release after the website launches.

Upon launch, the website will have a multitude of features. After earning skill points through various actions such as exploring the site and completing challenges, you will be able to unlock extra costumes for the characters and create stage dioramas such as below.

Challenges will range from killing a certain number of enemies in a given time, defeating heroes in the newly announced Agent Hunt mode, and more as of yet unannounced. Winning the challenges will put you in the running for the "Championship Belt." Gaining the belt will add your name to the records for all to see.

ResidentEvil.net will also serve as a more practical hub for Resident Evil 6. Aside from tracking stats and other online purposes, RE.net will be a place for players to access the readable files in the game, along with reading synopsizes of game progress.

The official press release from Capcom:
      Resident EvilŪ 6
Confirming its commitment to support Resident Evil 6 post launch, Capcom chose the press conference to announce Resident Evil.Net, a free web service that tracks and graphically represents all of the key in-game stats for players from around the world. At a glance see how you rate against your friends and be notified in real-time if they have beaten, for example, your latest Mercenaries score, by linking Resident Evil.Net to your Facebook, Twitter or Capcom-Unity accounts. Furthermore players will be able to join fellow gamers across the globe and compete in specially organized events.

Press conference attendees were also treated to fresh content from series newcomer Jake Muller's campaign. Gun for hire and son of the infamous Albert Wesker, Jake is on the run from his ceaseless pursuers who need the special blood that runs through his veins to further enhance the deadly C-virus. Holed up in a mountain shack, Jake, alongside Sherry Birkin, must use all his firearms and hand to hand combat skills if they are to defeat the encroaching J'avo. But will that be the end of their problems?

During the course of gamescom, attendees will be able to experience first-hand what promises to be the dramatic horror experience of 2012, with three missions from the campaigns of Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Jake Muller.

Resident Evil 6 will release on October 2 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system with a Windows PC version to follow.
