E3 Impression F1 2012
For being a big fan of Formula 1. I was happy when I walked the floor and came across F1 2012 from Codemasters. The game is still a work in progress and is about 70% done. From what I got to play the game looks great. I got to race with Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes Mclaren and right from the start I noticed that the game hasn't changed much from the previous titles. The car looks & sounds great. From the engine's low tone in the corners to the high pitches in the long straights. The sounds are all there. Sadly I didnt get to see any of the weather effects but if its the same as the previous titles you will be able to see the rooster tails from the cars driving in the rain and when the track drys out a racing line will being to form. So if you decide to take a gamble and drive on slick tires on a drying track. If you stray off line your car will spin due to the rest of the track having standing water. Back to the demo, while driving the handling is sharp and very responsive. When you drive off track into the gravel trap you can see the rocks stick to the tires and when getting back onto the race. You can feel that the car has lost some traction and will take a bit of time to get the tires back up to temp. While I was driving out of the gravel trap you can hear the rocks being sucked into the under carriage. Just more added effects to emerge you into the game. Other added additions to this game is being able to the brake basis in the corners. All of the 19 race tracks from this year's 2012 seasons are here, even The Circuit of America's track in Austin Texas that is being set to race in November.
As a big fan of the sport It was great to meet and ask a couple question to the makers of one of my favorite games and I was only a couple seconds off from beating his hotlap time. I guess you cant beat the makers of thier own product but was fun to try. I traded information and with a little luck I might be able to beta test the game before it's released in September.
