• EA Sports KO's paper manuals

EA Sports has decided to go the paperless route from here on out starting with their next title Fight Night Champion. It will be the first game without a paper manual included in the box.

EA has come out and said that they are doing it to save trees which is a commendable action no doubt, but is that the sole reason or are they just trying to salvage pennies per unit? Ubisoft has also adopted this method as well going with in-game manuals only in their titles.

Personally it's been pretty sad over the years watching paper manuals go from colorful and a necessity to black and white and void of information. What do you say?

I agree color manuals were always fun to look at but I dunno about a necessity. I guess we didn't have blown out tutorials back then though. I don't mind seeing manuals go, but games just don't quite feel "complete" without them. How bought giving us some nice artwork or something...I guess that doesn't save trees does it

I hate to say it but I won't miss my manual.

The thing is, if the game is intuitive enough, I'll get the controls. Yes, I want to understand the background in detail (I still remember in SMB how the bricks are supposed to be other mushroom kingdom subjects...) but nowadays, you can look up the wikia on any game for that. Manuals aren't a necessity unless you have no internet connection whatsoever.

Yeah, it will feel incomplete but I commend them for their green efforts. Maybe they can include some brief character profiles and artwork on the inside of the box cover so it's functional and pretty without wasting paper. But I won't notice the change because I don't really play sports games
