In Japan a group of researchers has created an interface intended to help people with oral motor function disorders. It also just so happens that this interface is on the Kinect and plays similar to an early shooting game. Nojima Laboratory has called this program the Simple Interface for Tongue motion Acquisition or "SITA", and claims that this method of oral training is a hygienic alternative as it does not have the user's tongue in contact with anything. In layman's terms, SITA first detects the eyes and nose to find the user's mouth, and then uses the motion of the tongue to aim and shoot. Nothing is being shot back at the user and the lab says that the precision isn't exactly spot on, but this is quite a leap in the fields of both health and gaming.
