From the creators that brought you Fruit Ninja comes Jetpack Joyride. This quirky little game is a side scroller in which you take the role of Barry, a guy hell bent on taking the longest joyride he possibly can on a jet pack he steals. The objective of the game is to travel as far as you can while avoiding a plethora of obstacles.
Graphics
This 2D game seems to have good design when it comes to its graphics, although this game provides nothing special in this department. This game uses sprites that seem to be 32 bit for Barry and other characters within the game, its background is ever changing but it seems to repeat over after getting a certain distance.
Sound/Music
The music consists of one repeated song on loop, but because this game is only meant to be played for a few minutes at a time its no problem, actually the tune is kind of catchy. As for the sound effects there is a limited amount displayed in the game for missiles, explosions and other things that go on in the game, but yet it seemed simple enough to not matter when playing this over and over.
Gameplay
In this game all you can control is Barry’s altitude with simply touching the screen while avoiding obstacles and while collecting coins. These coins allow the player the opportunity to buy in game costumes, jetpacks, and items that can also be obtained by purchasing coins with real money. While this is simple twitch gaming, Halfbrick studios added in the option of completing missions to gain achievements in game, which makes things all the more challenging.
Lasting Appeal
This game seems to keep bringing more and more to the table after each mission is complete which in turn makes you want to keep coming back for more. Minutes at a time or in my case hours at a time you can attempt to beat your old distance, which makes this game highly addictive.
Conclusion
This is one game to pick up, especially because it costs you absolutely nothing for tons of fun. Although things could have been done to really excel this game further such as scene changes and changing music, this game draws you in for more and more.
