In a report last week, the Midnight Purple 3DS was spotted as a pre-order item at a EB Games store. We knew it was coming, since it was shown at E3 back in 2009, alongside the black, blue, and gold 3DSs on display; it was just a matter of time.
Today, Nintendo announced that it will be released on May 20th. This is the same release date of Mario Tennis Open. The Midnight Purple 3DS will be the fifth color joining the lineup of Cosmo Black, Aqua Blue, Flame Red, and Pearl Pink.
It is quite interesting that the colors seem to be a bit different from the ones we saw in the display cases at E3. Those seemed to be a bit more glassy looking. It could have been the lighting, but I remember thinking that the purple and gold 3DSs did not look that great and seeing the image of the new royal 3DS, makes me definitely want it, with purple being my favorite color and all.
Nonetheless, look for it on shelves on May 20th, or make it easier on yourself and just pre-order it now.
