Miyamoto Not Stepping Down: “There seems to have been a misunderstanding” - Nintendo

In an interview that was posted yesterday with Wired, it was said, through Shigeru Miyamoto's interpreter, that Miyamoto was stepping down to be back on the forefront of gaming again. He wanted to work with the younger designers. Not only that, he wanted to make a project of his own. He hoped to start it in 2012 and have it ready to show the world within a year. It seems that Miyamoto “has no intention of stepping down” to assume a smaller role with the company after all. Since this news broke, Nintendo's share price was affected, as it dropped 2 percent to 11,040 yen. This required Nintendo's immediate clarification of this terrible mishap.

A spokeswoman for Nintendo has told Reuters:

There was no clarification on how his words were misinterpreted or what went wrong during that interview, or where it went wrong. We just know that the words or Miyamoto were not conveyed to the public correctly. Whether Miyamoto did not make himself clear, the words got jumbled in the translation, or got misinterpreted when typed up is not entirely clear.
