Yes! Thank you, Mr. Miyamoto! I'm not the only one who was hoping to see the return of Fox McCloud and Samus. I was also hoping that a new game from each series would be announced at E3 2012, but alas, it was not to be. There were even rumors of a Metroid and Star Fox crossover title, but that didn't amount to anything... that we know of.
Now Miyamoto has raised my hopes from the dead. When asked what IPs that he would like to see go next gen on Wii U, Miyamoto replied with Star Fox and Metroid.
"With Metroid it's very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U," said Miyamoto. "I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that."
Metroid: Other M was met with mixed reception. Would you rather see a side-scrolling Metroid game or something more along the lines of Metroid Prime? I still think the way of Prime is interesting. The Wii U GamePad as your scan visor for one thing. Switch weapons on the go. There's a lot in Samus' arsenal that could put the GamePad to fun use.
Miyamoto did say that Star Fox is his first choice to be developed for the Wii U. I have to agree. It's been years since we took an adventure with the Star Fox team, not since Star Fox: Assault. Come on Nintendo! I wanted this announced last year and this year! Make our dreams of doing an actual barrel roll with the GamePad's gyro sensors a reality!
