SMT fans rejoice, a first look into the new Shin Megami Tensei has appeared.
Earlier this year, Atlus revealed its plans for a 4th installment in the SMT series for the 3DS, details have been very scarce and only a few pieces of artwork have been shown, the new trailer however, brings a little more information on the setting and art style of the new installment, but as far as gameplay and story goes, it is all up for debate although it wouldn't be too far fetched to say that the game will retain the classic elements of the past installments, such as Demon Negotiations and its challenging turn based battles, unfortunately for fans of the classic 1st person perspective, it appears to be in 3rd person, much like SMT III: Nocturne.
The short trailer offers a look into a devastated city, and even a few shots of what appears to be some of the main characters. An interesting detail is the fact that high tech equipment is shown, possibly hinting at a futuristic setting. There is also what appears to be uniforms on some of the characters, which indicates the involvement of a specific organization, but with so little information, it is all speculation. The most important part of the 2 minute long trailer, is the fact that it shows what appears to be the destruction of a city, or possibly Japan, which would mean that the end of the world (or the possibility of it, given the way the settings change so quick and drastically from a modern day city to an old fortress, Time Travel cannot be dismissed) will once again be a key factor.
Whether the game is a drastic departure from what the fans are used or not, the game is sure to be another quality experience for JRPG enthusiasts. Be sure to check out the trailer and begin speculating as to what Atlus has in store for us next.
