We can assume that multiplayer was headed to PS Vita games, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Resistance: Burning Skies? However, there is some confirmation...sort of.
Destructoid asked one of the developers about the inclusion of a multiplayer option on Golden Abyss. They reported that he said that "we should expect 'something different', and that an official announcement will be coming soon." Hmmmmm...something different? That is quite interesting. I can't imagine what they will be bringing to the table with the multiplayer aspect of Abyss. However, we shall soon find out!
They also talked to a dev for Resistance: Burning Skies and reported that he "seemed adamant about recreating the console experience for the Vita." Now that doesn't say a whole lot, but if they are "adamant about recreating the console experience", that should include multiplayer.
We know that the online multiplayer for ModNation Racers Road Trip was recently announced not to be included. The features from PlayStation.Blog, and broken down by thesixthaxis, are as follows.
Road Trip will feature:
- Competitive Localized Leaderboards
- Continual Match-Making, Ghosts and Time Trials
- Travel Points: Time For A Road Trip… No Really…Seriously, get in your car, train or bus now.
- Destination Check-ins: Better Than A Passport Stamp
- Ad-Hoc Play: It’s ModNation Party Time!
- Race, Create, Publish and Download!
Road Trip won’t feature:
- Head to head online
While they know this upset a lot of fans, Erich Waas, Director, Product Development at San Diego Studios, wanted to address why the online multiplayer was not going to be included.
A couple of you have mentioned that MNR PSP had online play and this is of course true. But part of the decision to not include MNR:RT at launch was that the percentage of MNR PSP gamers who played online.
The development team is looking at online head-to-head in a patch. This wouldn’t be available day-1 of the PlayStation Vita launch but it is indeed something being researched as I type this.
