The still rumored PS3-4000 will not be making its debut at Gamescom, according to a VG247 source. Gamescom will be held on August 14th and will not be announced during Sony's press conference.
Although a reveal was planned, the source claims that due to high stock levels of the current build, Sony will wait to make its last run for additional sales for the PS3 before the PlayStation 4 is announced next year.
The VG247 source also confirms the 16Gb version of PS3-4000 rumor to be legit and that it is based on Flash memory. They have also been told that "there are no plans for a £99 PS3".
They reported:
The new model will stack up against Microsoft’s 4Gb Flash-based Xbox 360. As the 16Gb PS3-4000 will have a flip-lid disc input and low-capacity storage, we’ve been told today that the announcement “may” be accompanied by a huge price cut, with the entry version potentially dropping as low as £99.
