Now of course this is just a rumor, but it is still fun to try to guess companies' next moves. The rumor about Nintendo, that is floating around the internet, is that they will be making their announcement for the Wii 2.
First, "Wii 2" is not the official name of something that has still not been officially announced, but we'll take on this name to be in unison and to just make things simple.
While the other systems are trying to have these 10 year life spans, They're trying to ensure this life span with motion controls, I feel that this puts the Wii is in a good position right now. while Nintendo has been there, done that. Of course there are functionality that we hope Nintendo uses, as an example from their competitors, like say...hmmmm....doing away with "Friend Codes" and give us all names. That would be a great start.
The Nintendo Wii hit shelves in November of 2006. This means that we are now five years into our relationship with the Wii. Nintendo has a track record of releasing their new systems every five years. Of course, with the way companies are trying to prolong the release of their current system's successor, that may change this time around.....or will it? It is hard to say if this will change or not. Let's first take a look at what Nintendo's bigwigs have been quoted saying.

In talking to Kotaku in November of 2010, Reggie Fils-Aime, said that the Wii's successor does not necessarily have to come out in 2011.
"After we've reached an installed base of 45 million here in the U.S., we can have a conversation about the next generation."
In an interview with IGN at E3 2010, 3DS project leader, Hideki Konno, had this to say:
"When I became the producer of our next hardware, the Nintendo 3DS, I first started to consider whether maybe now this is the time when we can bring 3D gaming into gameplay. What I first did was an experiment with Wii games. I showed Mario Kart Wii and Animal Crossing: City Folk using the 3D panels. I also experimented with Wii Sports Resort's golf, and I directly presented that to Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Iwata. Both of them were challenging 3D for a very long time - but we needed to show them more than explaining it. I think there is a phrase in English, "A picture's worth a thousand words." I had to show them how it would move smoothly in order to convince them. And they agreed that this might be the era of technology that supports the 3D capability. So Nintendo decided to make it into a product.
"The latest technology has now completely matched with what Nintendo has wanted to do for a very long time. This is a very good time to start."
A couple of more quotes from Nintendo execs include:"The latest technology has now completely matched with what Nintendo has wanted to do for a very long time. This is a very good time to start."
"We are always preparing for the next hardware," Iwata says. "We are under development." - Satoru Iwata, Forbes Magazine July 2008, commenting on a Wii successor
"We are of course studying and developing the next console to Wii. However, there is a big difference between studying a product and announcing what it is and when we will release it." - Iwata at a Japanese investor Q and A session in 2010
With all that being said, I ask you, is your body ready for the Wii 2?Source 1
