While looking for some information regarding the Tomb Raider reboot (for the game), it was surprising to find that a new Tomb Raider movie is in the works. On March 8, 2011, it was announced that Graham King, best known for producing films such as "The Departed" and "The Town", has acquired the rights to the Tomb Raider film franchise. GK Studios will be the active film studio participating in the new movie, which they are expecting to hit theaters in 2013.
Though confirmed in interviews years ago, Angelina Jolie has made it clear that she would not return to reprise her role as Lara Croft. Jolie, who embodied the character, helped Paramount studios, the former owner of the films rights, make the first two Tomb Raider movies. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and its sequel, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life earned over $500,000,000 worldwide in the box office. GK Studios wants to introduce a younger face to play the iconic role of Lara Croft, so no actresses have officially been cast yet due to the film's pre-production being recently announced.
So what were your thoughts regarding the original Tomb Raider movies from years back? Did you enjoy them, or hate the idea of video game movies? Do you think the Tomb Raider franchise is good for a game-to-movie progression, or do you think it doesn't work like other franchises (*cough* Super Mario Bros. *cough*) And who would you want to play the role of Lara Croft? Let's hear your opinions!
And concerning the Tomb Raider game reboot, not much more information has been announced since it was first introduced. We do know that Lara will be younger, and beginning to use the physical skills she's had at her disposal. Though what Crystal Dynamics, the developer behind the game, is going for is a vulnerable Lara. This time around taking long falls or taking extensive damage will really weaken Lara, as opposed to the previous game's having her take damage, get up, brush it off, and go on her way. That being said, Lara Croft will show a side that players can find realistic. Not everyone has a thick candy shell that is. Aside from that, Lara will also be sporting a new look. We'll have you covered on more information on the game as more details appear. For now, here are some of the first high resolution pictures of the game below. Check them out!
