During a presentation delivered at the GameStop conference in Texas, PDP, who makes console accessories, leaked the release date for the Wii U. A close source has informed us that the date was stated during this presentation.
We knew that we could expect a release date for the holidays this year, but having a more defined date is what we were waiting on and it was given to us. PDP stated the release date as November 18, 2012, during the training, while they were explaining a third party accessory. To be a little more exact, Kotaku cited their own source as saying, "the representative from PDP informed the attendees that the peripherals would be available just ahead of the Wii U's November 18 release date."
In researching this information from our source further, it seems as though the rep reportedly tried to change the subject, once they had realized what they said. Then, I read on PCMAG that the PDP senior vice president sales and marketing William Otte emailed a statement to PCMag to ensure that this never happened.
The email read:
"Performance Designed Products is aware of recent rumors posted alleging that PDP inadvertently 'leaked' the official release date of the upcoming Nintendo Wii U gaming system during a trade presentation earlier today. To be clear, PDP has no knowledge whatsoever of the official Wii U release date, and thus it is not possible for PDP to have 'leaked' this information."
"During PDP's presentation of our fall line of gaming accessories to customers at a trade event, we stated that our Wii U accessories would be available at launch. Much later in the presentation we showed our Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 accessories for the Wii and confirmed that the Wii accessories will be in stores by the game's November 18 launch date. Connecting the Wii U launch and Epic Mickey 2 peripheral launch dates is inaccurate and false. PDP has no knowledge whether this is the official Wii U release date or not."
I mean, really, you make accessories for a console that will be available for launch and you don't even know when launch is? This information seems to be accurate, if you ask me. I consider this cover up busted.
